a joyful act of thanksgiving and worship
Our people support many great causes, one of which is giving to Lifepoint to enable us to continue to love others, minister to others and spread the Gospel.
We give because Jesus Christ gave the ultimate gift – His life – for us. We give because it breaks the dependency of materialism. We give because we help the underprivileged both in Australia and overseas. There’s plenty of reasons to give, and that’s just a few of them.

We have partnered through Compassion with local churches in the Philippines in an area called Bhutuan City to provide essentials like food, clean water, education and vocational training to those in need.
We have now sponsored over 100 children, and on top of our church’s donations our people give over $50,000 a year to their sponsorship children. We also send teams to the Philippines to visit and show we really care.
We spend a portion of the giving we receive through our people's joyful generosity to fund our mission to make Jesus known in our region and see lives transformed for good.
This means practical things like hiring staff, paying for facilities for ministry and programs, ensuring we have safety precautions and insurance, and just generally running a healthy and transparent organisation.
We give to many local needs in our community, and give over $50,000 of our budget away every year to important causes outside of our church.
We fund local chaplains, school breakfasts, give food hampers to those in crisis, and give support to the many practical needs that we encounter as our people live and work in this community.
We have Lifepoint family and friends all over the world making a difference, and some of our resources go to supporting them in places like Thailand, Africa, Columbia and Costa Rica.
We also give to charities such as "His Harvest", an organisation in India supporting children and families in desperate need.
No. Giving is never forced or compulsory. Christians give out of an overflow of gratitude and joy in response to what God has done for them. We love to give! But we don't have to!
However much you think is reasonable. If you're a Christian then you believe that everything that you have is God's anyway, so he deserves all of what you seem to own. He almost certainly doesn't want you to give it all away though, because you probably need at least some of it, and the rest he wants you to be wise with as his steward.
Many people talk about giving a 'tithe' which literally means a 'tenth' of what you earn each week to God and his work. This is based on an Old Testament offering that God's people were asked to give (see Malachi 3:10).
This is a healthy guide to giving as it is based as a percentage on what you earn, but it is not a law, requirement or a maximum amount. The reality is that Israelites actually gave much more than 10% of their income and resources to God and the priests.
If you are a follower of Jesus and currently give 0%, then start by giving say 5% and increase from there. You might be surprised at the results!
Here is a message from our Senior Pastor on financial freedom for those beginning their journey of giving.
We don't give because we're hoping to get (that's buying not giving!). But the reality is we can't out-give God, so we will somehow always end up better off!
1. GOD PROMISES TO BLESS YOU
"Generous people will be blessed . . ." Proverbs 22:9 (NCV)
"Honor the Lord by giving him the first part of all your income, then your barns will be filled to overflowing and your vats will overflow with the finest wine." Prov. 3:9 (LB/NLT)
"A generous man will prosper and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed." Proverbs 11:25 (NIV)
2. GOD PROMISES YOU WILL BE HAPPIER
"Remember the words of our Lord Jesus himself who said, 'There is more happiness in giving than in receiving.'" Acts 20:35
3. GOD PROMISES YOU WILL SOMEHOW END UP WITH MORE
Jesus: "Give, and it will be given back to you in full measure. What you receive will need to be pressed down and shaken together, but it will still run over and be poured into your lap! The way you give to others is the way God will give to you." Luke 6:38
"Some people give generously and end up with more, while others don't give what they should and end up poor." Proverbs 11:24 (NCV)
"Being generous to the poor is like lending to the Lord, and God will pay you back for what you've done." Proverbs 19:17
4. GOD PROMISES TO MEET ALL YOUR NEEDS
Paul: "I want you to have the good that comes from giving . . . My God will use his wonderful riches in Christ Jesus to give you everythingyou need." Phil. 4:17b, 19 (NCV)
"He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to their needs will receive curses." Proverbs 28:27 (NIV)
"You should give as you have decided in your heart to give. Never give reluctantly or under pressure because God loves the person who gives cheerfully. THEN God will generously provide for you, so that in ALL things at ALL times you'll have ALL that you need and plenty left over to give more to every good work." 2 Corinthians 9:7-8
5. GOD PROMISES HE WILL MULTIPLY WHAT YOU GIVE HIM
"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously." 2 Corinthians 9:6 (NIV)
"Just as God gives seed to farmers and bread for food, God gives you a supply of seed (to plant) then he makes it grow so there's a great harvest from your generosity. And God will make you rich enough to be generous at all times." 2 Corinthians 9:10-11
"Be generous, and one day you will be rewarded." Eccl. 11:1 (CEV)
6. GOD PROMISES YOUR GIVING IS STORED UP IN HEAVEN
"Use your money to do good . . . and give generously, always being ready to share with others whatever God has given you. By doing this you will be storing up real treasure for yourself–it is the only safe investment for eternity!" 1 Tim. 6:18-19a (LB)
Jesus: "Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make (eternal) friends. In this way, your generosity stores up a reward foryou in heaven." Luke 16:9
